Rosalind Franklin was an English chemist who made important contributions to the understanding of molecular structures of DNA, viruses, graphite and coal. Without her, proving the structure of DNA would have been a much tougher job, but sadly she passed away before it was considered fully proven and so was never nominated for a Nobel Prize. Despite this, she is regarded as one of the most important female scientists ever having unlocked the secrets of DNA which lead to a better understanding.
